How Rentals Work

Peer to Peer (3’rd party)

Renting the RV is very similar to AirBnB and VRBO. You book through a 3’rd party site which will have all the details as well as options and insurance. The 3’rd party will collect the payments and deposits.

Rental Booking and Payment

All bookings and payments will go through a 3’rd party site. When you fill out the contact form and you decide on dates/options, I will send a quote through one of the 3’rd party sites (sometimes multiple) to allow you to choose which one works best for you.

Pick Up and Drop Off

The times that you want to pick up and drop off directly determine the pricing of the trip. Outdoorsy does standard pricing based on nightly rates, just like a hotel. Check in is after 3pm and check out is before 12pm. If you want to keep it longer, or pick up earlier I can modify the rate to be a daily rate. It usually adds one day to the rental.

Insurance

3’rd party sites provide full coverage insurance. However, one big thing is that each renter MUST go through the driver screening process to be approved for the insurance. We will see which drivers are approved. If none are approved, we will contact the renter and request this be done in time for the rental. We cannot rent to anyone without being covered by the insurance. Rentals will be cancelled if the insurance coverage is not available.

At this time, renters cannot bring or provide their own insurance.

Roadside Assistance

3’rd party sites do offer roadside assistance for rentals. We do not provide any roadside assistance in addition or in place of your rental through them.

RV Rental Return

When you return the RV it should be:

  1. Clean inside – The RV will be given to the renter completely cleaned. We expect it back in the same condition as given. We understand it may not be feasible at the end of the trip to get it cleaned. We can clean it, but we do charge for that.
  2. Waste tanks emptied – If you are in Michigan, our RV has a state park pass and you can stop at any Michigan state park to dump for no charge. Please ensure the black and gray tank are emptied as best as you can. We will provide coaching on how to perform this service. Some parks also offer a dumping service for a nominal charge if you do not want to do this yourself.
  3. Fuel tank filled – There are a few gas stations that are RV friendly right near our place. Please bring it back with a full tank. The tank needs to be completely full.

Always double check all the drawers and cabinets for your personal items. We will inspect the RV inside and out for any damage and potential fees. Here is the fee structure:

  1. Interior cleaning – $100 for general cleaning,  $250 if dog hair found, $600 for smoke cleaning (professional top to bottom cleaning)
  2. Waste tank dumping – $80
  3. Fuel re-fill – $7/gallon (subject to change based on current prices)
  4. Generator usage beyond 2 hours per day – $3 per hour

Deposit Return

If there are any mileage/damage/cleaning fees, they will be taken from your deposit and the refund will be issued. Each renter/owner is required to fill out and/or sign a check out and return form. We will walk through the coach at pickup and return to go over any damage or notable issues on both ends of the rental.
